Two new entrants in the self driving car race...

This week I discuss the latest entrants into the self driving car market and this may bring us closer to a fully autonomous driving future:

The Apple car has been an open secret for about three years and now its biggest competitor in the smartphone market is gearing up to enter the self-driving car market.

Samsung has gained regulatory approval to test its self driving systems in South Korean a partnership with local car maker Hyundai.

The South Korean government has also allowed nearly 20 other companies to test their self-driving vehicles in a bid to make the country an attractive place for technological and automotive innovation.

South Korea allows companies to test cars even without pedals or steering wheels, which are required so that a human pilot could take control of the vehicle in case of an emergency.

Driverless-car technology startup NuTonomy, is teaming up with French car manufacturer Groupe PSA to integrate its autonomous driving software into the new Peugeot 3008 SUV for testing on open roads this year.

Both companies have revealed plans to begin testing of the driverless cars by this September in Singapore.

NuTonomy competes with Uber’s robot-taxi and is already conducting public trials of its self-driving car service in partnership with Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA).
